Vinyl LP pressing. Following the emotive “Boo Boo,” Toro y Moi’s new album, “Outer Peace,” is a time capsule that captures our relationship with contemporary culture in a comprehensive sonic package. As both a producer and designer, Chaz Bear combines abstract sound pairings with recognizable samples for his most pop-influenced record to date, featuring collaborations with ABRA, WET, and Instupendo. The album stays true to his funk and disco roots, evident in tracks like “Ordinary Pleasure,” while also exploring variations of house music with songs like “Freelance” and “Laws of the Universe.” Smooth interludes seamlessly transition into upbeat rhythms, mirroring the experience of cruising through the Bay Area, where Bear drew inspiration for the album. “Outer Peace” embodies duality, allowing listeners to immerse themselves in its versatile soundscape. Let your imagination roam free as you delve into this musical universe.
